ClockWorkMod Recovery and Root for Android One

1. Installing CWM recovery

ClockworkMod recovery is a recovery designed by Koushik dutta and supported by CyanogenMod team Requirements:
  • Any Android One device with Unlocked Bootloader
Unlocking the bootloader:
  • Reboot to fastboot mode
  • Execute following commands
    Code:
    fastboot oem unlock
    fastboot format userdata
Note: You will lose all data of yours after this Install recovery through fastboot:
  1. Download the recovery.img from here
  2. Reboot the phone into bootloader/fastboot mode
    Code:
    adb reboot bootloader
  3. Flash the recovery image and reboot
    Code:
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    Code:
    fastboot reboot

Bugs: The SDCard isn’t working properly so I have disabled it temporarily. Easier to fix but requires the phone which should come by 29th Sep Workaround for now: Use adb sideload to install a zip

2.  Rooting the phone

Requirements:
  • Unlocked bootloader
  • Installed CWM recovery
Method 1:
  • Download SuperSU zip from here
  • Enter recovery
  • Go to Install zip –> adb sideload
  • Connect the phone to PC
  • Execute the following
    Code:
    adb sideload <drag-n-drop-supersu-zip-here>
This will root your phone. There are more methods to root these devices, new methods will be added once I get my hands on my phone which is on its way.   Thanks to Ujjwal Kumar for testing this work.   XDA SUPPORT THREAD – ROOT and RECOVERY

Cool… It would be great if you add those sideload wala things in a separate batch script for windows or shell script fa linux instead of manually entering… Just pack up the super user zip, batch script, shell script nd adb files togethr in a single zip… Tats helps lot users…

Looks like I didn’t unlocked the bootloader in right way and now I don’t have a baseband on my Canvas A1. Check this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/BveCTRc.png

‘About phone’ screen shows Model number and Baseband as missing. I’ve also lost the files from /oem folder which had the oem.prop and pre-installed bloatware. There are no factory images available yet, so can you please provide the baseband image? Also, if possible, provide files from /oem folder as well.

Until factory images releases I’ll make do by flashing the Baseband.

    Thanks,
    Kartik
